An collaborative ecosystem of national and regional teams

Multidisciplinary teams dedicated to quality, innovation and respectful collaboration.

CIOOS is delivered through a collaborative ecosystem of national and regional teams that work together to support open, accessible, and interoperable ocean data in Canada. This ecosystem brings together the Coordinating Office, Regional Associations, and standing committees, each contributing distinct expertise while aligning around shared priorities, standards, and services. Together, these teams ensure national coordination, regional relevance, and sustained engagement with the ocean observing community. The sections below introduce the key components of this ecosystem.

Coordination Office

Created in May 2025, the Coordination Office marks a pivotal step in strengthening the national structure of CIOOS. Hosted by MEOPAR, the office serves as the central hub for strategic planning, operational alignment, and national-level coordination across regional associations and partners.

The office plays a key role in enabling technical efficiencies, such as optimizing the deployment of CIOOS national, regional and partner data catalogues, and in guiding strategic initiatives like Transforming Climate Action.

Anne-Sophie Ste-Marie
Director - CIOOS

Anne-Sophie Ste-Marie

After eight years at the St. Lawrence Global Observatory (SLGO), Anne-Sophie joins the MEOPAR team as the new Director of the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS). Anne-Sophie has played a vital role in setting up CIOOS since its origin in 2018 and has been responsible for multiple national roles such as chair of the Communication Committee and member of the Executive Committee of CIOOS. Previous director of partnerships at SLGO, she’s looking forward to drive strategic partnerships and funding initiatives to support CIOOS’s long-term sustainability.
